Flu Season Preparedness Reminders for EMS Providers
Tuesday, November 26, 2019
The flu season is here, are you prepared?
We are about to enter our busiest months of the year, and we want to remind you to break out your flu season plans!
- Get your flu shot
- Cover your cough
- Wash your hands
- Stay home if you are sick
Take a look at the most recent CDC’s flu prevention guidance for health care providers.
Alternate Destinations: Remember, in addition to hospitals, ambulances can transport patients to medical offices, urgent care centers and clinics. For more information, we have pasted the rule language below. If you have questions contact Brian Beard (602-364-3153 or Brian.Beard@azdhs.gov).
Hospital Volumes: Keep in mind; EMS transports to emergency departments are only a small portion of ED volume and admissions. Since hospitals can only discharge patients to facilities that have the clinical capacity to care for the patient, hospitals can face surge situations independent of the EMS transport volume. You can find which hospitals have been approved to implement surge operations on the Medical Facilities Licensing website.
EMResource: The status of virtually every hospital, emergency department and trauma center is available to every EMS agency and dispatch center in Arizona. Ensure that your dispatch center keeps you up to date on hospital status throughout the day.
